Bar codes are widely used in many places, such as convenience stores, supermarkets, airport kiosks, factories and package delivery tracking. By matching the flow of objects and information, bar code technology increases accuracy, tracks, reports and expedites over-all productivity. It is expected to develop further amid demand for more effective IT protocols.
The QR code* developed by DENSO WAVE is a 2D code which instantly reads approximately 100 times as much information as a bar code. QR code is presently a world standard, and is also stipulated by JIS and ISO.
QR codes can be displayed on a cellular phone screen for the purpose of ticketless concert entry or cashless vending machine purchases.
These uses are creating a rapidly expanding new market for QR codes.

Customer’s needs are diversified, ranging from smaller and lighter scanners, to scanners capable of reading unclear codes, scanners with bigger display screens, and scanners with high speed wireless communication support. DENSO WAVE is continuing to develop a range of scanners to meet these needs. ■ Customer-oriented Sales and Marketing Activities Our nation-wide sales network advises customers from a wide-range of industries, such as computer and equipment manufacturing, and systems companies, on which devices to introduce, what can be accomplished, and what kind of system can be designed to meet their demands.
Our partnership with affiliated companies has enabled us to develop our overseas market, expanding into Europe, Asia-Pacific, and North America. Promoting activities in Asian counties in particular will be an important task for us in the future as QR codes, in addition to being an ISO standard, are adopted as the national standard in China and Korea. The 180 members of the Automatic Data Capture Division continue their daily challenge to develop various usages for bar codes and QR codes.
